Career Counselling, Guidance and Placement Cell

Government College for Girls Ludhiana has a dynamic Career Counselling cell that organizes various Career Counselling, Guidance and Placement related activities. The cell with the help of District bureau of employment enterprises (DBEE), agencies and institutes organizes various interactive and knowledgeable workshops and seminars to enlighten the students about various career opportunities in public as well as private sector. Students are provided with valuable insights about various competitive exams that can help them in attaining a successful career. The placement cell organizes various “On” and “Off” campus drives with the help of various banks and companies like Bajaj finserv, OM Careers etc. The cell has a dedicated team which helps the students to develop employment skills. The students are also imparted knowledge to improve their communication skills which is an integral element to prosper in professional world. Several industrial visits have also been arranged for the overall development of the students.

They  discussed about VIGIL AUNTY, INTERNATIONAL FRAUDS, UPI FRAUDS, FAKE HELPLINE NUMBERS, SIM SWAP FRAUD, SKIMMING.
How to prepare yourself for the World of Work by Dr. Nidhi Singhi. 100 30-09-2022 Dr. Nidhi Singhi Career Counsellor at DBEE has discussed about the choice of career with the students regarding government jobs, private jobs and entrepreneurship and shared that our chief minister BHAGWANT MANN launches massive recruitment drive to provide 26,454 government jobs to the young youth. She taught some steps to follow for the government job or how to prepare for the government job to the students.
Career planning and how to get government jobs by Dr. Nidhi Singhi. 150 01-02-2023 The objective of the session was to create awareness among students about the lucrative career options available in the field in the field of Commerce and Management. It was a very informative session where students gained a lot of knowledge about upcoming exams, jobs, curriculum, salary packages and all the related topics. The session was a great guidance for the students. 
Expert talk under "Khwaaishan di Udaan" at DBEE by Dr. Nidhi and her team of DBEE. 53 03-02-2023 'Khwaaishan di Udaan' organized by Punjab Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobar Mission PGRKM related to Skill training programs undergoing in Punjab Skill Development Mission. Guidance regarding various employment related schemes of the government.
Idea generation by Er. Shilpa Miglani. 150 08-02-2023 The objective of the Idea Generation workshop was to highlight the various aspects to be considered while starting out sustainable and scalable businesses. She encouraged students to think of the various problems faced by society and spoke about generating ideas that would be viable as businesses. Idea generation competition was also conducted on the spot.
Placement drive by OM CAREERS by Ms. Aarveen. 30 24-02-2023 Om Careers had conducted a mega campus drive in which Ms. Aarveen firstly guided the students regarding Company and job profile. Then one to one interview was conducted in which 28 students appeared ad 11 students were shortlisted for 2nd round of interview with Directors. 8 students cleared the 2nd round and got finally placed.
Punjab youth leadership program by Gurjeet Singh Sandu. 100 28-02-2023 GCG has signed an MOU with Sanjhi Sikhiya Foundation under which a seminar on "Punjab young leader program" by Gurjeet Singh Sandhu Co-founder of the NPO announced a fellowship based on stipend 20000/pm. 
DBEE registration camp at GCG by Dr.Nidhi and her team. 62 01-03-2023 DBEE team conducted a registration and awareness camp in the GCG premises. In which the resource person discussed the benefits of getting registered under employment exchange .Being a registered applicant, the candidate is eligible for sponsorship for trainings / coaching under different Govt. schemes. During camp, 62 students were successfully registered under the exchange and got their empoyment card on the spot.
How to make money grow by CA H.S Kharbanda.  77 04-03-2023 4 hour workshop on topic how to make money grow was conducted wherein speaker talked about various financial instruments, what are the risks and return options available with various financial instruments. He also discussed why and how should students start investing early in their age so as to enjoy maximum return in future. 77 students from BBA 1st and 2nd year, BCOM 1st and BA economics 1st year participated.
Effective public speaking by Mrs. Abha Bajaj Sikri soft skill trainer and communication specialist. 120 07-03-2023 2 day workshop on topic 'EFFECTIVE PUBLIC SPEAKING' was conducted wherein speaker explains and demonstrated in how to speacialize in art of public speaking. She explains influence of communication and public speaking and then also conducted various activities to teach students how to communicate effectively in personal and business communication. 118 students from BBA, BCOM and BA music of 1st year participated.
Office Automation Tools workshop by Dr. Gurdas Singh.

78 09-03-2023 Department of Computer Science in collaboration with Career counselling and placement cell organized a Workshop on Office Automation Tools Using MS-Word on 09.03.2023 at Government College for Girls, Ludhiana by Dr. Gurdas Singh, Assistant Professor Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana.
Industrial visit to Arisht Spinning Mills.

47 14-03-2023 47 students from BBA Final and 2nd year participated. Started from Ludhiana 7:30 am in the morning and reached plant at 12:00 noon. Students made a visit to manufacturing plant and understood how manufacturing takes place starting from raw material to finished products. 
         
2023-24 MEGA JOB FAIR  458  22-08-2023 A job fair was organized by the Career Counselling and Placement Cell on August 22, 2023, at GCG Campus. Fourteen companies were invited through DBEE for recruiting college passout and final year students. Vice Principal Mrs. Gurjinder Kaur welcomed Mrs. Minakshi Sharma, Deputy Director of DBEE, along with other team members. Employers from various semi-government and private companies, including ICICI Bank, LIC, Axis Bank, Pukhraj, Star Health, HDB Finance, and VGS Global (Airtel), interviewed approximately 458 candidates for different job profile.


10 DAYS ON WORKSHOP “ADVANCED EXEL” by Mr. Varinder Singh  100  11-08-2023 to
21-08-2023 
From September 11 to 21, 2023, a workshop was held at GCG College, Ludhiana, from 10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m. Mr. Varinder Singh was the speaker, and 100 students attended. The workshop covered advanced Excel techniques, MS Word, PowerPoint, web development, and AI tools. Students learned to create Excel formulas using ChatGPT, automate presentations, and create and publish websites. The workshop provided valuable knowledge for students' future personal and professional endeavors.
WORK SHOP ON INCOME TAX AND GST  150  11-08-2023 to

The PG Department of Commerce & Business Administration organized a 10-day hands-on training workshop on filing income tax returns, GST, and TDS returns from September 11 to 21, 2023, under the Punjab Government Scheme for Career Counselling in Government Colleges. CA Ruby Kapoor served as the resource person, aiming to provide practical knowledge through discussions on real-life situations. The workshop covered topics such as PAN application, types of income tax returns, GST registration, slab rates, TDS filing, house property income, and capital gains. Final year students of B.Com, BBA, and M.Com attended, and an objective type test was conducted to evaluate their progress. Overall, it was an engaging and insightful workshop.

College for girls organised a 05 days hands on training workshop on GST AND PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT for Bcom and BBA 2nd year students CA Gautam chawla was the resource person and CA Mandeep kaur was the co speaker The workshop was very informative for students to understand the practical aspects of GST registration and return filing . 
STALLS BY STUDENT AT DHIYAAN DA MELA  50  30-09-2023  A fair celebrating Punjabi culture was held at the Government College for Girls campus, with MLA Ashok Kumar Prashar and Meenu Prashar as chief guests, and Sunil Vohra and Kavita Vohra as honoured guests. Principal Suman Lata and the Senior Staff Council welcomed the guests. The fair featured stalls offering bangles, jewelery, clothing, and more, along with delicious treats like kheer-pure, chaat, and ice cream. Sports activities were organized for faculty and students to promote teamwork and skills. The cultural program included Punjabi folk dances, songs, and a beauty competition, with Gurleen Kaur named "Sohni mutiyaar" and judged by Gurwinder Kaur, Neelima Dhiman, and Jaspreet Kaur. Vice Principal Mrs. Gurjinder Kaur expressed gratitude to all participants.  
REGISTRATION BY DBEE  86  19-10-2023 Under Principal Mrs. Suman Lata's guidance, the Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, organized a registration camp for undergraduate and postgraduate students with the District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises on October 19, 2023, in the college main auditorium. Approximately 86 students registered by submitting their official and academic documents. The Cell team members provided guidance on the benefits of obtaining employment cards. Registered students will gain access to a variety of job listings, and DBEE can assist in connecting them with suitable employment opportunities, simplifying the job search process for students.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP  50  11-11-2023  On November 11, 2023, the Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Government College for Girls organized a Diwali Mela in the college garden, led by Mrs. Suman Lata. Approximately 50 students participated in the event, which featured colourful stalls offering clothes, accessories, cosmetics, chocolates, handicrafts, and decorative items. Various game stalls, such as guess the song and lucky draw, were set up, with winners receiving candles and diyas. Nail art and food stalls added to the festive atmosphere, with the campus adorned with colourful rangolis. Teachers and students alike enjoyed the event, which provided both entertainment and opportunities for budding entrepreneurs to showcase their skills. 
10 DAYS HANDS ON TRAINING WORKSHOP ON FINANCIAL PLANNING AND PORTFLIO MANAGEMENT  120  10-01-2024 TO 23-01-20244 From January 10 to 23, 2024, the PG Department of Commerce & Business Administration organized a 10-day hands-on training workshop on Financial Planning and Portfolio Management at Rusa Hall. The workshop, conducted under the Punjab Government Scheme for Career Counselling, featured CA Anish Vohra as the resource person. Aimed at final year students of B.Com., BBA, and M.Com., the workshop provided practical knowledge on managing finances and making investment decisions in real stock market situations. Topics covered included fundamental and technical analysis of stocks, equity, mutual funds, insurance, and portfolio management. Participants were divided into groups and assigned companies for presentations to evaluate their understanding. Overall, it was an engaging and beneficial workshop for all attendees. 
CAREER GUIDANCE SESSSION  56  07-02-2024 Speaker:- MR.OMKAR MISHRA No of students:-56 students Career Counselling and Placement Cell in collaboration with Planning and Consumer Forum of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana organized a career guidance session on February 7, 2024. Led by Mr. Omkar Mishra, founder of Simplifying Selections, the session focussed on guiding and preparing around 56 students who were present in the session for various government sector competitive exams. Dr. Gurmeet Singh and Mrs. Neetu Verma from the college faculty attended alongside the students. The interactive session addressed various students queries, fostering an informative environment beneficial for students in choosing their career paths wisely.
PLACEMENT CAMP  115  12-02-2024 On February 12, 2024, the Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, under the guidance of Principal Mrs. Suman Lata, organized a Placement Camp in the college main auditorium. Approximately 115 students registered and participated in interviews with companies like Om Careers, Skillkart, and E-Module for various job profiles. Many final year students were shortlisted for second-round interviews, while first and second-year students gained valuable recruitment process experience. Dr. Gurmeet Singh and his team successfully coordinated the event, encouraging students to make the most of the opportunity.
