Course Outcomes - Bio-Chemistry
Biochemistry
Sr No.
Name of the course
Outcomes
1.
Biomolecules and its metabolism
The course aims about the understanding of biomolecules (Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acid). Emphasis will be on the understanding of structural functional relationship between various biomolecules. This course will also help students to explore the biological and physiological role of these biomolecules at chemical level with a biological perspective as well as hands on approach and laboratory techniques. The course will also impart knowledge about various anabolic and catabolic pathways involved in metabolism of different types of biomolecules and clinical implications of defects in these pathways.
2.
Basic and applied Molecular Biology
Students will acquire basic information about the structure of DNA and various forms of DNA , about organization of genome in various life forms, supercoiling of DNA and its significance. The course mainly focuses on the study of molecular events of cell like replication, transcription, translation and DNA repair processes. The course teaches students about gene manipulation, regulation of gene expression etc. which prepares them for further studies in the area of genetic engineering.
3.
Applied Biochemistry
To enable students to acquire the practical skills and theoretical knowledge in life sciences required to practice competently in a laboratory or industry setting. The course also outlines the consequences of any hormonal imbalances with special emphasis on human diseases.Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to understands the structure and function of different classes of immunoglobulins and basic concepts of hypersensitivity and vaccines.
4.
Enzymology and Bioenergetics
The student will learn the nature and enzymes in living system. The course will introduce students to the applications of enzymes in research and medicine as well as industry, helps students to get enrolled into industrial and biomedical research. The course will introduce students to the basic trends of Bioenergetics and detail out the molecular mechanism of Oxidative phosphorylation and substrate phosphorylation.
5
Biochemical Techniques
The aim of this course reinforce and extends knowledge of basic principle and applications of biochemical techniques. This will impart knowledge on application of these techniques now in everyday use and biochemical laboratory. Students will become acquainted about various methods that can be used to conduct scientific research.
6
Membrane Biology
The student will understand the general composition and structure of bio membranes. The course also deals with basic properties of membranes such as membrane fluidity and about the various types of membrane transport mechanism. The clinical conditions associated with defects in membrane composition and transport will also be explored.
Attainment
Students gained theoretical and practical knowledge about various Biochemical techniques and phenomenon involved in human biological system. Understanding of this phenomenon has led the students to develop scientific attitude, knowledge, reasoning and critical analysis of ongoing scientific studies. They have acquired the skill in various practical methods to measure the level of different biomolecules in different (Blood, serum, urine) biological samples.
