About the Department:
Under the Panjab University, Fine Arts as a subject of study was introduced at Government College for Girls Ludhiana in 1956. Soon after, the under-graduate programme was offered in 1956 however, the Post Graduation in Fine Arts started in 1993. Initially the courses were offered to Girls candidates only under the academic guidance of Baldev Singh, Gurcharan Singh both are diploma holder from College of Arts.
Fine Arts as full-fledged department was established in 1956 in the Faculty of Arts, MA in Fine Arts (Post Graduation) in 1993. The teaching program in the department is focused on quality results in both creative painting and Skilled based syllabus. Periodic updating of syllabi in accordance with the relevance and advancement of knowledge of the subjects taught in the department is done on regular basis.

1 17-Feb-2023  Workshop on Sikh style of Miniature Painting  M. A.-20B.A.-70   Students were given an opportunity to learn and study the art of Miniature painting. More than 400 students participated in the workshop and were guided by Mr. Avtar Singh, Principal GACTTI, Nabha 
2 09-March-2023  Calligraphy Workshop M.A.-20, B.A.-80  Calligraphy is artistic, stylized or elegant handwriting or lettering. Mr. Davinder Singh Nagi was like a jewel in the crown. He guided students on how to create beautiful calligraphic writing, with brush, bamboo stick and ink. Students were so overwhelmed by his work that, they themselves started doing calligraphy and remained their till they attained the optimum result. Even students from different streams came to learn. All over more than 500 students participated. 
3 16-March-2023  Trip to Govt. College for Arts and govt. Art Museum,Chandigarh  50 Students visited The Govt. Museum and Art Gallery first, where they explored works of art, spread across the timeline of Indian Art history i.e. Ancient to Contemporary era. They also came to know about Pre-Historic period and its various civilizations. Besides we saw the bronze sculptures on the first floor, Buddhist sculptures, Miniatures and contemporary paintings on the second floor and various artifacts and fossils were also displayed.

1. 21st August 2024 Talent Hunt 20 (post graduation) & 80 (under graduation) Our department organizes a Talent Hunt Competition to acknowledge the students and to showcase their artistic talents. The main objective of organizing this talent hunt was to locate the potential talent of the budding artists. Students from all different streams participated with great enthusiasm. Winners from eight different categories on the spot painting, poster making, collage making, cartooning, rangoli, clay modelling, still life and photography were felicitated by the judges of the competitions.
2 29th October 2024 Diwali Mela 20 (PG) & 30(UG) Fine Arts Department organised an exquisite exhibition, held on the occasion of the 'Diwali Mela' at G.C.G., Ldh. The exhibition aimed to celebrate creativity, promote traditional craftsmanship, and provide a platform for budding artists to display their talents. The exhibition was held at a vibrant and spacious setting that provided the perfect backdrop for the display of intricate handmade crafts. It featured a wide range of handmade crafts, diwali decor, decorated diyaa and candles, hand painted suits, paintings etc... each category highlighting the diverse skills of the Fine Arts Department students.
3 15th January 2025  Workshop- Modernization of art through Technology 20 post graduation & 50 under graduation  In this seminar, Dr. Vidisha, an Assistant Professor from Amity University, conducted a graphic design workshop at Government College for Girls. Organized by the Fine Arts Department, the event aimed to enhance students' creative skills and design knowledge. Dr. Vidisha covered key aspects of graphic design, career opportunities, and practical use of tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop. The interactive session provided hands-on learning experiences. The college principal and vice principal appreciated the collaboration, and Dr. Vidisha was honored with an award and a gift as a token of gratitude.

3  17th January 2026 The Movie 20 post graduation & 50 under graduation  The department of Fine Arts organizes a short film which relates the teachings of Swami Vivekanada with life. The main objective was to make students think about their purpose of being a human and their responsibilities towards humanity. A slogan writing competion was also oraganised in which 40 students participated. our respected Principal mam give prizesto the slogan writing winners. Teachers from different streams were also invited to be the part of this wonderful show.
4     26th  January 2026 Secret Garden Exhibition 20 post graduation & 60 under graduation  Fine Arts Department joined an exquisite exhibition, held at secret Garden, A Hotel by Grewalz, ludhiana. The exhibition was aimed at celebrating creativity, promote traditional artist, and provide a platform for budding artists to display their talents. It featured a wide range of paintings in different style by different artist. Fine arts students participated and exhibit their work with other artist.
