ABOUT DEPARTMENT

Political Science refers to the study of politics and power from domestic, international and comparative perspectives. It is also called as dynamic or progressive science. Keeping in mind its pros of entailing understanding political ideas, ideologies, institutions, policies, processes and behavior among youth, the ‘Department of Political Science’ has been established since 1943 in premises of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana (affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh). Our vision aims at providing a comprehensive Bachelor of Arts program with Political Science as a major subject. Besides it focusses on preparing the students for their futuristic endeavors in field of education and career. It helps students acquire the highest standard of education by being innovative, supportive and sustainable. It embarks on the mission to groom students in developing their personalities so that they become eligible enough to serve the country as enlightened citizens. The well-planned curriculum prepares our students to be well-learned, politically active, ethical citizens not only in their local community but also when they represent their nation. Our goals and objectives include encouraging the students to express and implement their ideas individually as well as collectively, inculcating leadership qualities amongst students and encouraging both formal and informal student-teacher interaction. The department offers the B. A. course with Hons to more than 500 students. The department has two well qualified assistant professors with higher degree such as UGC NET. The department has own internal library for the students.

1 03-Feb-2025 DECLAMATION COMPETITION – The Constitution as a Beacon for Democracy 90 students + 8 speakers A declamation competition was organized by the Department of Political Science to celebrate the 75th year of the adoption of the Constitution under the guidance of Principal Mrs. Suman Lata Ji. The topic was 'The Constitution as a Beacon for Democracy.' The event was judged by Mrs. Umang Bharti from the Department of Psychology and Mrs. Anchal from the Department of History. Students expressed their views on constitutional ideals, rights, and liberties. A role-play of Constituent Assembly leaders was also performed. Winners were Gurleen (1st), Kamalpreet (2nd), and Jasmine (3rd). Poster-making results were also announced and the Head of Department Mrs. Sarita Minhas Ji gave the vote of thanks.
2 15-Mar-2025 EDUCATIONAL TRIP – Akshardham Temple & Sada Pind 85 students The Political Science and History Departments organized an educational trip to Akshardham Temple, Jalandhar and Sada Pind, Amritsar under the guidance of Principal Mrs. Suman Lata Ji. The journey began in the morning with great enthusiasm. Students explored the architecture, cultural and spiritual significance of Akshardham Temple. At Sada Pind, students experienced Punjabi heritage, folk music, handicrafts, and traditional cuisine. The visit provided practical cultural learning along with enjoyment.

1 08-Aug-2025 YUVA CONNECT PROGRAM – Viksit Bharat@2047 Youth Parliament 24 participants Under the guidance of Principal Mrs. Suman Lata Ji, the Department of Political Science organized Yuva Connect Program Viksit Bharat@2047 Youth Parliament. The program aimed to develop awareness about parliamentary procedures and to build leadership, communication, and decision-making skills among students. Participants performed the roles of parliamentarians and conducted discussions and debates on national issues in a structured parliamentary format.
