Department of Psychology (Manojigyasa) was established in the year 1980. Its vision is to be the best place to learn the scientific principles of behavior and mental processes; to make significant contributions to the science and practice of psychology; and to strive for excellence in teaching-learning process. Missions of psychology department are as follows: (i) To provide excellent education in the discipline of psychology. (ii) To train and prepare the students for advance study in specific psychology. (iii) To maintain high academic standards for students.
(iv) Faculty to be dedicated to exceptional teaching and mentoring. (v) To encourage balance between the theoretical and practical aspects of psychology. (vi) To educate and train students for careers in psychology. It provides UG degree in Pass and Honours Courses.
In the department, there are two faculty members (Dr. Rajiv Kumar Sehgal and Mrs. Umang Bharti) and one non-teaching staff (Mrs. Balwinder Kaur). Psychology department has its laboratory where practical knowledge is given to the students regarding various psychological tests and apparatus. There is also a book bank/library in the department from where students can get various psychology books issued and get more learning/knowledge of the subject.
Few of the most established and well renowned alumnae are Ms. Divya Dutta (An Indian television/film actress), Ms. Kanu Thind (PCS SDM-cum-Executive Magistrate), Ms. Sona Thind (PCS District Food and Civil Supplies Officer), Ms. Chitwan Singh (Clinical Psychologist) and Ms. Nisha Phakey (Clinical Psychologist).
The department is committed to excellence in education with proficient professors, well equipped laboratory, up-to-date books and digital content regarding all domains of psychology. Its aim is to eradicate the stigma related to mental health and to spread awareness at the very ground level by conducting various events, activities and competitions in the college. The purpose is to help students grow by providing them the platform where they can showcase their skills and talents.
