The Department of Punjabi came into existence on 17.07 1944.Post Graduation in Punjabi literature started in 11.8.1999.It was inaugurated by the former CM of Punjab honorable S. Parkas Singh Badal. Education is the third eye of the man. Since ancient times in Punjabi culture the education has the coveted title of price less treasure .The composition of world's first book Rig Veda and the sacred text of Guru Granth Sahib is a unique unparalleled and priceless gift to the whole humanity. The verses of Baba Farid, Bulleh Shah and Waris Shah give a message of Unity, Goodwill, amicability amongst human beings and selfless social service to all. The Successors of such inheritance Punjabis, while giving the status of mother to the whole Earth and considering all human beings to be their siblings following dictum of work hard and share, have established a singular identity for themselves in approximately 140 countries. Our mission is to disseminate the Punjabi culture the voice of Punjab the message of Punjab through the mother tongue Punjabi-throughout the world to spread the message of the welfare of all and to serve mankind. General Punjabi, Elective Punjabi, Punjabi honors and M.A Punjabi is offered to the students. There are ten dedicated faculty members. All are NET qualified, four are Ph.D. holders, two are M. Phil. Smart class rooms and heritage room is the attraction of department. Punjabi department has its own library for PG students, it has 2139 books. Mrs. Gurvinder kaur, Mrs. Nirmaljit kaur, Mrs. Uttamdeep kaur, Mrs. Harpreet Kaur  , Mrs. Anita Rani, Dr. Paramjeet  kaur, Ms. Paramjeet  kaur, Dr. Jaskiran kaur are outstanding alumni of the department who are working as assistant professor in Punjabi of Government College for girls, Ludhiana.
