Sociology refers to the scientific study of society. It is a social science that focuses on society, human social behavior, patterns of social
relationships, social interactions and aspects of culture associated with everyday life. Department of sociology has been established since 1943
in premises of Government College for Girls Ludhiana. Our vision aims to enable students to understand the important role of Sociology to
bring positive change in the society. It also equipped students with a strong academic foundation that helps them to question critically,
communicate and interact strong or clearly. The mission of the Department is to develop critical thinking skills and appreciation for the social
scientific method as a tool for understanding social problems and providing them quality educational program. It also enables students to
become informed, effective and responsible members of the society. Our objective is to prepare students to enter into a wide range of career
setting programs such as Government jobs, Social Services, Research Institutes and Community Organization. The department offers the B.A
course to more than 250 students. The Department has one well qualified Assistant Professor with higher degree such as UGC NET.

Department of Public Administration and Sociology conducted an interactive extension lecture on the Topic :- "Empowering Women In Indian Politics: Women’s Reservation Bill". Honourable Principal Mam Mrs. Suman Lata Ji inaugurated the event along with Mrs. Baljit Kaur (HOD of Public Administration Department), Dr. Dinesh Sharda and Mrs. Nisha Sangwal ( HOD of Sociology). Lecture on this topic was given by our esteemed Chief Guest Dr. Dharmendra Singh. He guided the students about the significance of this bill and made us aware about different aspects of this bill (includes provision, objective, criticism and suggestions) . Mrs. Baljit Kaur and Mrs. Nisha Sangwal also shared their views on this topic and encouraged the students about the importance of woman leadership and unveil their real potential. Mrs. Suman Lata ( Principal of Government college for girls) motivated students to rise in every sphere of life and even highlighted the importance of independent decision making of women. Our respected teachers Dr.  Gurmeet Singh, Mr. Naveen, Mr. Avatar Singh, Dr. Harmaneet Singh and Mr. Mukesh also joined the event.
