About the Department:
Government College for Girls is one of the leading colleges of northern India. Mathematics is one of the most important subjects. Mathematics as a subject was introduced in Arts course in 1943 and BSc course was introduced in 1962.Since its introduction mathematics department is working hard to impart quality education to students .Department of mathematics  worked diligently to give its best to the institute and students .The vision of the department is to impart quality mathematics education and to achieve high standards of excellence in generating and propagating knowledge in mathematics .Our vision is to  provide an environment where students can learn and understand use of mathematics in other disciplines .The mission of the department is to  be one of the leading mathematics departments and to emerge as a center of learning of quality education. The college offers BA with mathematics and BSc non medical courses to the students .In the interdisciplinary areas mathematics is offered in B.Com course .The department of mathematics adopted 100% online teaching and learning methods during COVID-19 time. The faculty consists of five hard working teachers. They always motivate the students to achieve greater heights in mathematical field. Good infrastructure facilities are provided to students in the mathematics classrooms. In general ,every year there are around 200 pass outs with mathematics as one of the subjects and approximately 10% students opt for higher education i.e. MSc mathematics and MSc statistics .Our results are good .Recently in the BSc final result our student Arsha got first university position with mathematics as one of the key subjects .On the activity point of view PIE day was celebrated with chart making competition. A function on the greatest mathematician S.Ramanujan was organized .it was full of inspiration and motivation .On  March 7, 2023 two extension lectures were organized by the department on the topics of“ careers in mathematics “and “applied mathematics in higher studies” by resource  person Prof (Dr.) G S Sandhu. We hope that in the coming years department of mathematics will achieve more success under the able guidance of  respected principal madam Mrs.Suman Lata ji.
