Philosophy refers to the study of critical thinking and innovates to promote human values for its students as well as for all.
Philosophy is referred as a systematic study of general and fundamental questions concerning topics such as Existence, Reason,
Knowledge, Values, Mind and methodological consideration of reality. It endeavors to understand the nature of correct thinking and
to discover valid Reasoning. The “Department of Philosophy “has been established since 1943 in the premises of Government
College For Girls, Ludhiana.(Affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh) Our vision is to inspire, challenge and prepare all students to
find careers that reflect their values and lead a life of connectivity and meaning. The department aspires to provide value education
and is committed to promote excellence in teaching and research, team work based on respect, trust and integrity. It embarks on
the mission to groom students to demonstrate quality life and open mindedness, so that they may turn out to be eligible enough to
serve the country as enlightened citizens. The well planned curriculum prepares our students to be well learned critical thinkers, to
embrace excellence and model critical leadership. Our goals and objectives include encouraging the students to express and
implement their ideas individually as well as collectively. The department is committed to foster student engagement in important
philosophical debates, development in contemporary philosophy and application of philosophical ideas in all areas of life. The
department offers the B.A. degree course to more than 300 students. The department has one well qualified assistant professor
with highest degree of PhD, UGC, JRF, and NET. The department has its own internal library for students.

A short film screening based on the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda was successfully organised by the Philosophy Society in collaboration with the Fine Arts Society. The event began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and a warm welcome of the Principal and teachers, followed by an address explaining the objective of the programme and the announcement of a poster-making competition. Prizes were distributed to the winners, after which the short film “Chalo Jeeta Hai” was screened and received with great interest by the audience. The Principal delivered an inspiring speech on the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy, followed by student reflections on the film. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the event as meaningful and inspiring for all participants. |
