Geography studies the difference of phenomena usually related in different parts of the earth surface the study of physical features of the earth and its atmosphere and of human activity as it affects and is affected by these, including the distribution of population and resources and political and economic activities. Practical applications of geomorphology will help students attain a better insight about Earth’s surface in future which will open new career opportunities in various departments like survey of India environment counselling etc. The mission of geography department is to stimulate and promote excellence in geography through the provision of asserts based and the provision of geographic insights on important societal issues. To lead the development of academic, education and research directions of human and natural systems urban and rural problems and geospatial information science. the creation the creation of department of geography at government college The creation of department of geography at government college for girls was in 1943. Since then the department has worked tireless Plea to provide students with the first hand understanding of the world, how it formed and the cultures and civilizations that have colonised it the vision of geography department is to provide students educational experiences of the highest quality and to conduct vital research that produces valuable publications. Department of geography is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and to serve in our communities from local to global geography subject offers UG courses only. There are 2 faculty members in geography department. There is one geography lab. Geography lab is well ventilated and well furnished, having computer set, globes, tracing tables ,wall maps ,display board ,3D models, meteorological instruments etc. There is one lab attendant.

3.	Installation ceremony and extension lecture	An installation ceremony of geography philosophy and Red Cross society was organised at Russia hall at gcg ludhiana. Madam suman lata Ji (principal GCG) was the chief guest. Dr.krishan Kumar (PhD political science assistant professor at desh Bhagat university mandi gobindgarh )enlightened the students on the topic “geography matters for political philosophy in context of South Asia.”	2023-2-27
4.	Inter college zonal level geography quiz contest	Madam principal Mrs suman lata Ji was the chief guest and dharam Singh sadhuji retired registrar of jagat guru nanak dev university was guest of honour. Various teams from different colleges in ludhiana zone participated in this contest. Total of 16 participated from different colleges out of which five teams were selected by a written exam. 5.	Educational trip to siswan dam Mohali	This trip enhanced the practical knowledge of students. The enjoyed tracking of about 7.5 kilometres in between the green forests of shivalik range of Himalayas and students also enjoyed boating and they got to explorer and get connected to nature by this educational trip.	2023-3-11

1	On the spot slogan writing competition	On 12th October,2023, an on the spot slogan writing competition was organised by geography department on the topic of recent environmental issues. Total 08 students had participated. The students participated very enthusiastically. Mrs. Kamlesh Kaur (HOD) and Mrs. Anupreet kaur made the judgement for the competition and judged the slogans from various aspects.  Arshdeep Kaur from BA 3rd roll no. 3042 stood first. Aarti from BA 3rd bagged 2nd position. Manisha from BA 3rd stood 3rd and Gurleen Kaur BA 1st got consolation prize.	2023-10-12
2	Installation Ceremony	An installation ceremony was organised by geography department on 8th February 2024 in the presence of the principal of GCG, Mrs. Suman Lata ji. 3	Inter-College Zonal level geography Quiz contest	On 2nd March, 2024, the students of geography department of GCG participated in an inter-ollege zonal level Geography quiz contest that was organised by Khalsa college for women, Ludhiana. Ruchika Singh from BA 3rd ,Nishtha Choudhary and preeti from BA 2nd had participated and bagged 3rd position . Khalsa college stood 1st and 2nd position was won by SCD boys college. 4	Closing Ceremony	On 25th April, 2024, the closing ceremony of geography society was organised by the geography department.
